• Friday February 8th Smugmug team rolled out massive change to the server security. Now each album and each image has additional "random" key in addition to existing ID. While I definitely welcome more secure protection of our intellectual property, updating thousands lines of code to accommodate those changes was not fun at all. However, I'm happy to report that it has been done. All primary functionality should be working. It's possible that some minor functionality is still broken, though. should you come across such a case, please let me know.

What's new:

• New: No-wait upload mode (OFF by default)
  It has been noted by many users that upload times out, especially during the "rush-hour" (weekends, usually). To eliminate this issue at its root a new mode has been added that allows you upload/replace images without waiting for Smugmug servers response. This also speeds the process up additional 15%..30%.
  To turn this mode ON set the flag in Options, Upload, Upload Method, Do Not Wait for Response.
  The Big Caveat: image ids are not retrieved, so all images assumed to be uploaded OK. Power and Pro users would have to Get Image Info after such an upload to ensure Image replace and other image ID-based functionality. Pro users can use additional flag to obtain such information automatically by checking the Get Info After Fast Upload option.
  Due to the described nature of the new mode I do not recommend its usage on a regular basis - unless:
  1) you are experience timeout/handle in the wrong state errors frequently, or
  2) dealing with large uploads - in which case you can save some considerable amount of time.

• Bradford Benn found a bug with Image Replace (again - arrgh, I was fixing something else and screwed up IR). Oh well, should be fixed now. Thanks Brad!

What's new:

• New: Auto Reconnect Switch (ON by default)
  After every major task S*E would force itself to reconnect.
  Should help with losing connection after length operations, such as numerous album creations and such.
   the search results. Done!
• New: Auto reupload if there are images left in the queue.
  During weekend nights and other busy periods some users experienced an error usually indicating itself with the wording "handle is in the wrong state", which led to upload interruption.
  While it's not currently possible to totally prevent this error from happening (it's mostly ISP/server related), the new set of switches should help to resume the process automatically. Be cautious, however, since if you may get yourself in a dead loop if there are many "bad" files in the queue, or if the connection is really bad.
• Stephen Felisan reported a bug: "Update sync Tree" command would open "My Documents" instead of the correct folder.

  Ever had a trouble figuring out where on smugmug did you upload that particular picture? Well, your troubles are over. New full text search (Ctrl+F, also a button on the primary toolbar) allows to quickly scan all pertinent image data and locate albums or even individual images that match you criteria. And even if you don't remember exact words: no worries, *-type wildcards are supported!
  Of course you can save/copy the results, open SM page with the album/image in question, reveal the file in explorer or open it in your favorite app.
• Some fixes for Jet Provider selection.
• Minor fixes here and there.

• New! Vista-safe licensing. No more "Run As Administrator" hassles.
  If you're already hold the old license and do not experience Vista-related issues you may continue to use it safely.

• New! No More Online Duplicates!
  Now you can tell S*E to verify if you have already uploaded a particular file to a particular album. You can select no checking, check all or selected list of albums. The latter works great if you want to keep the parsing speed high, but want to automate "picture of the day" logic for a few albums.
  Note: to avoid extremely long delays, this feature only works against the cached data. If you use S*E all the time, you are already covered, otherwise you need to use Get Images Info command for the tree section.

• Albums/Categories Trees:
  + removed full expansion from the mass actions

• New! Multithreaded upload. Depending on the circumstances can show speed improvement from 10% to 30%. User is given an option to use the new - faster - method vs. slower, but more reliable old one.
  By default this option is turned OFF. Go to Options, Upload tab to enable it.
  GOTCHA: new RAW POST method, recommended by Smugmug, does not allow for multi-line image captions. You can still enter several lines of text, but be prepared that S*E will internally replace the line breaks with spaces.
  Multiline captions stored in IPTC are still fine.
  
  Since the changes were rather drastic, I left the previous version 159 available in case the new one gets out of hand.
   
• Miscellaneous UI improvements.

• Upload Log Viewer is here!
  With this version you'll get two new main toolbar buttons (and two correspondent Online menu items).
  One provides a direct link to your server's upload log (which can be huge, to say the least).
  The other allows you to download the info locally (without the pictures, hence much faster) and lets you view, sort, filter, export, save and, most importantly, re-upload the files that were (mistakenly) rejected by smugmug servers (while having valid IDs).
  Since the latest versions of S*E store some upload-related info in the cache, you don't have to locate albums, retype the captions, etc. Just verify that files are in fact OK, and hit Upload:-)

Private/Protected galleries are fine, though. You can request download at any level, from Root (you'll get everything in one shot) down to a single gallery (the latter is the only choice for Power Edition).
  All in all, try it - you may like it:-)

• Issue resolved: if image upload fails, S*E would try to repeat the attempt a few times. Solves a lot of pesky "few files didn't upload' problems.
• Bugfix: Vikramjeet reported a bug when S*E would not accept a file "with no date". The problem turned out to be a camera that was setting image dates to something like 12/31/1969 and a routine in Delphi library, which was checking last modification date to ensure file actually exists:-(. The last function could only operate with the file dates falling between 1980 and 2107, hence...
  Anyway, it's fixed now:-)
  BTW: if you think 2107 is a very distant future, check this:
  in 2036 all UNIX-based machines will roll over their internal timers and start back from zero. Y2K was a drizzle. 2038 will be Cat 6...

• You can request automatic logoff/shutdown after the upload. Currently provided options are:
  * Suspend
  * Hibernate
  * Logoff
  * Shutdown

NOTE 1: if you choose one of the last two options and upload is unsuccessful, you will need to examine log file to detect upload results, since the application will be automatically closed.

NOTE 2: The selection combo-box (located on the auxiliary toolbar next to green upload button) will be automatically reset to "None" after each upload to avoid accidents.
 

• Kip reported S*E gets into infinite loop on a certain files and provided a test file, on which I could reproduce it. Thanks a lot, Kip!
  Details:
  This particular file was processed with Picasa editor.
  Upload process finishes at 100%, SM server reports 200 OK, but no XML response is returned (empty string is returned).
  Image stays at SM server indefinitely as "Processing image" icon.
  You can delete it, but not as a part of bulk operation, since it appears to be in an eternal "in-limbo" state from SM server p.o.v.
  Fixed.
• "Update Sync Tree..." action works.
  It allows you to create a local directories structure that mirrors your SM category/subcategory/album hierarchy. Currently can be used as a part of auto creation upload, but more importantly - as a part of image download (coming soon to power/pro editions)

Transparently linked with Sales Download feature (implicitly activated when you save sales data to DB), it can be also invoked independently from the main menu, context menus or a toolbar.
  Fully available to Pro (you can download this info for *all* your images in one mighty sweep if you run it for the root - although it may take its time);
  limited to one album a time for Power;
  not available in a Standard edition, sorry.

• Jimmy Dearing reported he can name cat/sub with '/", while S*E does not allow it.
  Original SM docs only allowed alphanumericals, dashes and spaces. Recently they added ' to the list (wish we were notified somehow..), while still strongly warning against usage of the other characters...
  Oh, well, now S*E allows everything. Go have a ball, but don't blame me or S*E if your entry is rejected...

Bottom line - if you already have working S*E install - you don't have to do anything.

  Attention All PROs: you can link two databases (cache and sales) together - and get the report on sales VS original file name - now!
